Goal IV: Theory and Praxis

IV. Students have a critical grounding in theoretical perspectives that draw on research in LIS and other fields of knowledge that inform their professional practices, including research, organization, management, and access to information.

a. Students will describe applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in library and information science:

LIS 6711 Organization of Information- Research Paper- Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Metadata Creation

For this research paper, I looked at various quantitative and qualitative studies investigating the developing role of artificial intelligence and machine learning software in metadata creation.

b. Students will identify research opportunities and develop plans for research in applied settings in library and information science:

LIS 6409 Introduction to Library Administration - Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Library Leadership: Annotated Bibliography

This annotated bibliography reviews ten sources of research and scholarship regarding equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in library leadership. Many organizations have EDI programming, staff training, and community projects to foster diversity and inclusion. Recent studies investigate library leadership's role in implementing best practices, ultimately identifying shortcomings and systemic issues.
